WEEK 1: PHYSICAL INFOGRAPHIC PROCESS

WEEK2 PEER CRITIQUE

This critique was particularly informative because of the sense of direction it gave me. Focusing on hardware and gaming my initial focus was to illustrate the evolution of gaming consoles up until now. 

Does this project concept conform to the project specifications? Is this a figurative infographic, or is it data visualization, more suitable for the second project?

Considering the amount of illustrations needed for the project, it was suggested that there may not be enough time for the project. Also there may not be an obvious call to action at first glance. Instead I decided to focus on one brand instead of a  wide spectrum, specifically Playstation.

 Does this project have a specific, well defined client? If not, assist your classmate in creating a short list of possible clients which will direct and focus their efforts.

My intent was to only focus on key models that helped propel the industry forward into the future. After revealing my proposal to my peers, there were a few things that stuck out. Forcing me to re-evaluate the evolution I wanted to illustrate, I thought about the current state of the industry instead of looking back. Before long, it seemed obvious that virtual reality was a much more viable subject matter with a stronger call to action. The hardware is relatively new and is still in its beginning stages as consumers are still figuring out what it is.

P1 Project Process

Playstation has  been a juggernaut in the gaming industry  for the past 20 years. Constantly redefining gaming and the engaging experience that reaches out to millions. Over the years, they have released a flurry of consoles that have found their way to millions of living rooms imprinting themselves in the memory of every gamer. Through every generation of Playstation consoles there is a story to be told.

This year Playstation will Officially release its first Virtual Reality hardware. Given its history, this is a dramatic change in direction for the corporation. Everything from the hardware to the experience is going to change the brands identity. How much so, is yet to be seen until later this year, however taking a look back at the previous hardware releases can give us insight on the future of the brand.

This is an opportunity for Playstation to take note of this historical moment by taking a look back a its history by making an infographic about its previous consoles. This infographic will be for the wider spectrum of gamers that have grown with the brand, and also for the newer generation so that they may gain insight and a renewed interest in the brands history.

UNIT 2 READING

 Understanding the business structure of the client is crucial to the process of the design. Direct input from vital stakeholders in the business is always sought. Because they are the final yeh or nay sayers of the final product, it is important to have a clear understanding of a broad spectrum of things and expectations from the stakeholders.  A gestalt formulates as the result of collecting information from important resources. Eventually the design process can begin after extensive dialogue has been established among the clients. Above all having access to the top executives through out the process is always the best case scenario if it it can be helped. This will ensure the least amount of holdups and re-iterations.
Having an in-depth and extensive knowledge about the client and its audience is vital to the success of the pitch. Any product will fail to meet expectations whenever there isn't a campaign that appropriately speaks to the audience. Everything from the way they receive their content to how they decide to share it with their peers. If the content isnt tailored for the audience then the point is being missed. This misalignment between the information and target audience can be corrected through knowledgeable research that provides a catalyst of new ways to approach  the audience in a more intelligent and immersive manner.

Unit 1 Reading

The reason why info graphics are so important is because they are often a reflection in one way or another, of ourselves, society, and our approach to thinking. It becomes quite obvious after initial research,  the impact of infographics have a direct relationship to the world we live in and how we see ourselves in it. Visualizing our concepts and topics allows us to have a deeper connection with the information that may often be vital, but dry. This connection is crucial to our development as society because then the information may be absorbed and re interpreted for even more efficient means of communicating.

Refining these visual processes allow the audience to quickly absorb, digest and  connect with one another. To the the point of ultimate efficiency in terms of productivity, or general experience. It is important to me as a designer to be understood. As long as their is a clear outline of the goal intended, I always think about who I am designing the project for and the general psychology of the audience. The data gathered from all the research, should reveal itself for me to interpret in understanding. The end result is intended to be original and inspiring with intelligent art.

I am interested in the the collaborative process with numerous individuals. Especially when they all have an opinion about the project. Within TUMAS'  sketches, there are clear outlines of hierarchies which help the process. As complex as the project was, it is important to notice the group practices that were instrumental to achieving an agreed consensus amongst a professional and numerous team.
The collaborative process explained kind of ties in with the sketch when trying to visualize the concept.
